VISION QUEST turns 30

Vision Quest (released in the UK & Australia as Crazy for You) is a 1985 coming of age drama film starring Matthew Modine and Linda Fiorentino. It is based on Terry Davis' novel of the same name. Modine plays a Spokane high school wrestler who falls in love with a mysterious drifter, whose is 3 years older than the high school senior. The film includes an appearance by Madonna, her first in a major motion picture, playing a singer at a the Big Foot tavern where she performs the songs "Crazy for You" and "Gambler". In some countries, the title of the film was changed to market on Madonna's emerging fame and the popularity of the song "Crazy for You". The film had moderate success in theaters in the U.S. in 1985, earning a gross of $13 million but became a cult classic and a favorite amongst wrestlers.

About Last Night: Cult Classic Vision Quest at 30

About Last Night. Fun to attend the 30-year anniversary screening of the cult classic film, Vision Quest at Fox Theater (Spokane, Washington) with actor Mathew Modine and author Terry Davis.

A word to describe Mathew Modine is genuine. He is truly a nice guy who was generous with his time and so appreciative of the author, coach, cast and Spokane. He was sweet, funny and very much like the lovable Louden Swain.

It was interesting to hear the behind-the-scene take on the making on Vision Quest, such as which scenes they came back and shot after the film wrapped up and what was really happening off the set. Forrest Whittaker was an extra and Mathew was in Spokane for 5 months prior learning how to wrestle with Mead High School wrestling coach, Cash Stone. Stone played a ref in the film. Loved seeing all the shots of Spokane bridges, downtown and Palouse. Looks like Spokane has grown up as well.

Return to 1985

In 1985, there was less than 20 wineries in Washington State (#wine #wawine). Today, there are 850+

Also in 1985 Vision Quest made its debut in theaters. Im looking forward to tonight and attending the 30th anniversary screening & post party with Mathew Modine. Vision Quest was filmed in Spokane, Washington. It was released in 1985. I was a freshman at Whitworth University and Madonna who sings at the Big Foot Tavern in the film was soaring up the music charts with 🎶 Crazy for You 🎶

Seafood Chowder. It's SOUPER good.

Seafood Chowder is absolutely delicious and perfect for today's weather. When it comes to wine pairing, a dry Riesling or Viognier is a nice alternative to the typical choice of a Chardonnay.

Flavorful and slightly sweet; a Viognier is bit more like Riesling than a Chardonnay. The extra sweetness really matches well with this heavy dish. I recommend pouring local. We suggestBebop Riesling Columbia Valley) from Nodland Cellars or Alexander Nicole Viognier (Columbia Valley)

This recipe takes some time to prepare, but is well worth the effort. We make large batches and freeze it. Serve with freshly baked crusty bagette bread. Locally bake bread is available at The Rocket Market or Central Food.

Ingredients:
2 cups potatoes, peeled and diced
4 strips bacon, chopped and fried
4 T margarine
¾ cup flour
¼ cup each carrots, onions, celery and bell pepper – all diced
1 quart water
1, 8-oz. bottle clam juice
1-1/2 lbs. canned or fresh clams, diced
1-1/2 lbs. canned or fresh baby shrimp

Thank you for always being there for me and greeting me with that little green half-smile every time we hang out. When I have MORE ESSAYS THAN I CAN COUNT to complete, you always find a way to give me the energy boost I need. Whether it's from a 3-shot Caramel Macchiato or a black Pike Place Roast, you deliver. You're not always that convenient for me but I go out of my way to get to you because, well... that's what friends do. If there is one downfall about our completely one-sided relationship, it's that you burn through my wallet like you nitric acid! Due to that frustration, I must say adieu. You shall not steal my money any longer! (this week, anyway).

MLK Dream & Reality

This morning with a few of my closest friends and nearly 1000 others gathered at the Spokane Convention Center and then marched through the streets of downtown. We marched in peace for freedom and for equal rights.
The morning message was inspiring but clear in that there is still much work to do. We need to make it our business to change the seemingly predetermined destiny of minority youth. The statistics prove that indeed we have much work still to do.
The beloved Rev. Happy Watkins delivered his version the famous "I have a Dream" speech. The powerful words resonated with my soul but the work to be done is what's left on my heart.

Book of Mormon says "Hello" Spokane

Hello! Those who know me, know that I adore the theatre. I'm thrilled to be a guest for opening night of The Book of Mormon.

#WCEBookofMormon #BookofMormon
Watch for my review but honestly with this award winning show you should just take a leap of faith and get tickets now. It's going to be brilliant! This show has been on my live entertainment bucket list (yes, I have one) for a while now.
Even though Mormons don't partake in alcohol. I do. I'm recommending taking in Happy Hour at Spencer's for Steaks and Chops Spokane  (4-6pm Monday through Friday) prior to the show. Score a perfect martini for $5. You simply cannot go wrong with their delicious Happy Hour menu.
Get your tickets & go! You'll only regret not going. Opening night is January 28th 2015!
