Hooray! A day for Cabernet.

Hey, Hey Cabernet!

This Thursday, Sept. 2 is world wide #Cabernet Day. For 24 hours, people around the world will be celebrating the king of grapes on social media sites. Like we need a reason to drink a Cab.
Hmmm....Okay, I'm in.

It’s simple to participate. Drink Cabernet (or Cabernet Franc or Cabernet blends) and talk about them online.

Use the #Cabernet hash tag on Facebook, Foursquare, Gowalla, Twitter and other blogs. Use the hash tag to see what hundreds of others are thinking about what they're drinking.

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country. Cabernet is definitely a belle of the ball in Washington.

In Spokane, we do this so very well. Whether Barrister's iconic Cab Franc to Overbluff's trio of Fab Cabs we have no shortage of Cab's to choose from. Barili Cellars sophomore efforts had a Cabernet Sauvignon being the the spectacular standout and Whitestone's Cab Sauv and Nodland's Reserve are coveted in my collection. Liberty Lake Wine Cellars and  Robert Karl have well deserved accolades for their Cabs. Townshend, Grande Rhone, Arbor Crest and Caterina have crave worthy cabs as well.
Yes, in Spokane we have choices. This would be a good day to host a wine tasting party.

 Life is a Cabernet.

We are Sip of Spokane. So it's kinda our job to represent Spokane. Are you in?

Twitter is easy to sign up for at http://www.twitter.com/. Just send quick posts (tweets) about your favorite Cab and within in post have #cabernet so it can be tracked. It's fun to search #cabernet http://search.twitter.com/
Read what everyone is saying about this great grape brings new meaning to the phrase heard it through the grapevine.
Cin Cin, Sip

Marys & Mimosas - Booze for Breakfast

Bringing Back The Breakfast Drink                  Marys and Mimosas

Both the Bloody Mary and Mimosa make it socially acceptable to drink before noon.  While this can be a problem if the drinking continues all day, on its own, a Mary or a Mimosa is a beautiful thing.
The Bloody Mary can be a meal in itself - a healthy sounding one at that with a slightly morbid name. Bloody Marys traditionally are made with vodka and tomato juice which is then heavily spiced and garnished. Some say this drink was conceived in Paris in the roaring 20's.  Others trace it back to the 30's as a cure to the dreaded hangover. Either way, this breakfast cocktail has evolved with many twists being added along the way.
The Mimosa, on the other hand, is a mainstay of the classy champagne brunch with a straightforward recipe: champagne or sparkling wine and orange juice. Yes, this is a drink you can make yourself. It was supposedly invented in back in 1925 at a Parisian Hotel. As with most cocktails, there a…

Are some wines more romantic than others?

Absolutely! Port for instance is a seductively slow sip that vies for the title of most romantic wine. Additionally, Port is ideal for winter thanks to the warmth of brandy added during the winemaking process.
I’m thrilled about receiving the highly anticipated release of Quinta de la Rosa’s 30-Year-Old Tawny Port. This collectible port celebrates the thirtieth anniversary since the Father/Daughter team of Tim and Sophia Bergqvist started Quinta de la Rosa in the Douro. This beautiful amber color port is aged well for three decades. Respectfully, slow down and don’t rush this. This is definately a bottle you need to spend some time with. It has enormous elegance and complexity.

Winemaker’s Notes: On the nose, slightly dried fruit aromas with touches of balsamic vinegar, coffee and exotic wood being just some of the components. On the palate it is simply delicious, almost light but with incredible intensity of flavor, soft, mouth filling with great persistence. Food Match: Best served…

Drink Pink! The rise of Rosé

Rosé sales has exploded in the US over the past few years, especially during the warm weather months. It taste like summer and all the best ways. In France, it now eclipses the sale of white wine. Yes, everything‘s coming up rosé.

It’s not surprising that when the acclaimed Argentina’s Bodega Santa Julia from chose select wines for the "wine in a can" trend, they picked a luscious rosé.

This Malbec Rosé is bursting with summer berries such as strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. I found it charmingly crisp and delicate on the palate. It’s an easy sip and a good balance between sugar and acidity. It’s an ideal pairing for weekends at the lake, alfresco dining and adventure.
I get the convenience of the grab and go can but I’m still packing stemware as sticking your nose in the glass and taking in the aroma effects the taste. Yes, im that into wine. A rosé is a very food friendly wine and pairs with almost anything. Personally, I love rose with grilled seafood and it’…
